Frequently Asked Questions
GoBald is the only head-shaving campaign initiated by Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society to raise funds, and spread awareness of childhood cancer.
The biggest stigma for cancer patients, especially children, is hair loss that happens as a result of chemotherapy. While this is the least of the effects of cancer treatment, it can still be traumatic. The idea of GoBald is for participants to help raise money and shave their heads in solidarity for children with cancer, to show them that we understand, that it’s ok to lose their hair as they walk the path towards recovery; and to shine a spotlight on the need for members of the community to do their part.
To support this event, you can choose any of the options below:
• GoBald to show moral support, by registering online. There is a minimum donation of RM 300 required should you decide to GoBald.
• Make a donation to Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society to show moral support.
How To Join
You can register online here and get your friends and families to donate and support you in going bald. No, you don’t have to pay upfront to GoBald. However, there is a minimum donation of RM 300 required for those who are registering as a shavee. So, get your friends and family who are not planning to GoBald, to be involved by donating to your cause.
As an appreciation to shavees raising RM300 and above, we will be sending you your very own GoBald t-shirt. This will be delivered to the mailing address you provide, during your appointment slot booking. Should you prefer to collect it at the SCCS centre in Kuching or Miri, you will be provided with the option to do so, and this can help us to save on operation costs! As we are doing our best to keep costs low, the t-shirts will be available to be delivered to you, starting from mid-October to November. We appreciate your kind understanding!

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, we are not carrying out any physical public events this year. You can register online here. We have opened online registration for participants to easily fundraise and promote their cause without needing to hold on to cash via online donation, allow direct provision of receipts from SCCS to donors, and book their preferred shaving appointment online. Registration closes on 30 September 2021, or when shave appointment slots are fully booked, whichever comes first.
For my own personal reasons, I’m not able to shave, although I registered as a shavee. Can I still change?
Yes, you can change your status from shavee to fundraiser anytime, on your fundraiser page by clicking on "I'm Shavee" and selecting "Raise Funds Only" before 5pm on 29th August 2021. If you aren’t able to shave, you can still do your part to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society. If you decide to brave the shave and would like to convert your fundraiser status back to shavee status, you can do so by 5pm 29th August.

You can consider one of the following:
• GoBald on your own. You must notify us that you are planning to shave on your own by contacting us here or PM us on fb.com/gobald before 30 August 2021
• Request your regular hair salon to sponsor your shave
Please contact us here to speak to us further on this.
Due to hygiene reasons, individuals with scalp conditions or sensitivities such as scalp injuries, sores on scalp, scars on scalp (from operations or injuries) are advised not to participate in the event.
We strongly encourage all GoBald shavees to shave at least number one (1/8 of an inch), as the main aim of GoBald is to show children with cancer who are suffering from hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment, that it's ok to be bald. However, if you have any restrictions due to work or health/skin/personal reasons, we do advise that you can also share this in your profile page so to let your supporters know.
Registration for shaving slots for each main event will open by 30 August, and close by 30 September, or when the shaving slots are all fully booked. You’ll receive a code which will act as your shaving pass, which you will show at the salon as proof of your appointment. Shaving appointments are not interchangeable. Please contact us at email@example.com or PM us on the GoBald Facebook page at fb.com/gobald if you wish to change your slot.
Kindly be no later than 15 minutes after your chosen time slot. For example, if you have chosen 1:30PM, please do not arrive later than 1:45PM. Otherwise you will need to book a new appointment. You must show your confirmation email to be able to carry out the appointment.
My family and friends would like to take photos and videotape my shaving. Can they come with me to the salon to do so?
Due to the current Covid-19 situation, participants may only bring 1 other person to assist with photo or video taking. All visitors to the salon are required to be mindful of social distancing practices, and wear a mask at all times.

Kindly email us with your Name and IC, and details to be changed, within 2 days after making a donation. We regret to inform that, we are unable to process a change of name of e-receipt (with the exception for spelling errors or number errors for NRIC based on the e-form submitted to us during when making this donation) after 2 working days of receiving the receipt as this would generate a duplicate amount in the e-receipt system.

As one of the objectives of GoBald is to tell children with cancer that it is OK to be bald, hence we don't collect shaven hair to make wigs. However, shavees who wish to donate their hair to make wigs may contact Locks Of Hope
