About GoBald

GoBald is the only head-shaving campaign initiated by Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society to raise funds, and spread awareness of childhood cancer.

The biggest stigma for cancer patients, especially children, is hair loss that happens as a result of chemotherapy. While this is the least of the effects of cancer treatment, it can still be traumatic. The idea of GoBald is for participants to help raise money and shave their heads in solidarity for children with cancer, to show them that we understand, that it’s ok to lose their hair as they walk the path towards recovery; and to shine a spotlight on the need for members of the community to do their part.

The money raised is used to help with the operational costs of the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) centres (in Kuching and Miri), and also to provide for additional or unscheduled medical treatments. The funds are also used for financial aid, and for the general welfare of childhood cancer patients and their families. Click here to find out more.

How To Join

You can register online here and get your friends and families to donate and support you in going bald. No, you don’t have to pay upfront to GoBald. However, there is a minimum donation of RM 50 required for those who are registering as a shavee. So, get your friends and family who are not planning to GoBald, to be involved by donating to your cause.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation, we are not carrying out any physical public events this year. You can register online here. We have opened online registration for participants to easily fundraise and promote their cause without needing to hold on to cash via online donation, allow direct provision of receipts from SCCS to donors, and book their preferred shaving appointment online. Registration closes on 30 June 2024, or when shave appointment slots are fully booked, whichever comes first.

Yes, you can change your status from shavee to fundraiser anytime, on your fundraiser page by clicking on "I'm Shavee" and selecting "Raise Funds Only" before 5pm on 10th June 2024. If you aren’t able to shave, you can still do your part to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society. If you decide to brave the shave and would like to convert your fundraiser status back to shavee status, you can do so by 5pm on 10th June 2024.

Shaving

You can consider one of the following:

  •  • GoBald on your own. You must notify us that you are planning to shave on your own by contacting us here or PM us on fb.com/gobald before 20th May 2024.

  •  • Request your regular hair salon to sponsor your shave

Please contact us here to speak to us further on this.

Due to hygiene reasons, individuals with scalp conditions or sensitivities such as scalp injuries, sores on scalp, scars on scalp (from operations or injuries) are advised not to participate in the event.

We strongly encourage all GoBald shavees to shave at least number one (1/8 of an inch), as the main aim of GoBald is to show children with cancer who are suffering from hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment, that it's ok to be bald. However, if you have any restrictions due to work or health/skin/personal reasons, we do advise that you can also share this in your profile page so to let your supporters know.

Registration for shaving slots for each main event will open by 20th May 2024, and close by 30 June 2024, or when the shaving slots are all fully booked. You’ll receive a code which will act as your shaving pass, which you will show at the salon or main event, as proof of your booking. Shaving appointments are not interchangeable. Please contact us at gobald@sccs.org.my or PM us on the GoBald Facebook page at fb.com/gobald if you wish to change your slot.
